The most unusual feature of Assassin's Creed II, however, is shown in large letters in front of the box: "A permanent internet connection is required to play the game." This wouldn't be so weird if it were just an online multiplayer game, but Assassin's Creed II is a single player, story-based adventure. Whenever you play a game, you have to sign in to an online portal. If you are not connected to the Internet, you cannot start the game, and if you lose your connection, the game will stop. Even your saved games are stored online, which is an honor if you plan to play on multiple computers, but it seems like an unreasonable mandate. It's a bold way to manage digital rights - and a way to unnecessarily hinder your enjoyment. If a storm knocks out your internet connection, you're out of luck; If you want to play games on your laptop during the next plane trip, skip Assassin's Creed II out of the list of possibilities. And even if you maintain a solid connection, you may run into some problems. Twice we stopped the game while it was saving, and several times we had short but noticeable delays when the game tried to load our profile and download our progress. The second time, our login attempt timed out, or the launcher incorrectly notified us that we used the wrong username or password. These issues disrupted our playtime for hours, and affected European players intermittently for several days.

Regardless of your perception of this extraordinary copy protection scheme and the inconvenience it may cause you, Assassin's Creed II is still a very entertaining and sometimes transcendental experience. Like the first game, it takes place on two timelines: a modern-day history with Bartender Desmond Mails, and another with one of Desmond's ancestors. When you start the game, you'll catch Desmond where the original left him, although the original fans may guess, Abstergo Labs is no longer a safe haven. During the game you will spend some time with Desmond, although the shoes you often fill are from Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the charming son of a 15th century Italian banker. Ezio is an instant favorite firebrand, as passionate about family and honor as it is about alcohol and women. When you first meet him, Ezio lives a carefree life and is not yet dressed as his killer, nor is he familiar with the faith. However, the biggest threat from assassins: murder and deception instigated by the Templars, Ezio's freedom to take care of the devil soon ends.
Assassin's Creed's Altair was an interesting character, but only for the covert arrangement he represented, not because you've ever known a man in white. Ezio is far more charming, not only because he is sharp with a secret blade, but also because he is the main character of a complete sense. He is not at the mercy of the plot, but rather, the narrative is prepared out of the need to expose the truth behind his suffering. This is the personal nature of the narrative that makes Assassin's Creed II story stronger than the story of its predecessor. The few parts of the modern era that feature Desmond are still very punchy, and the conspiracies to further this story have become much clearer and, as a result, more provocative. The two missions, which take place just before the finale, and which were released as downloadable add-ons for console versions, hinder some of the dramatic pace of the story. However, the ending itself is shocking and memorable, which is a good improvement over the ambiguous outcome of the original.
Izzy is not the only headliner of Assassin's Creed III. The Italy he lives in is a character in itself, full of visual and sound details that impress the world with life and beauty. The cities you explore - Florence, Venice and more - are bigger and more detailed than the first game environment. Citizens go about their daily lives, and in doing so they look authentic. Small groups walk together talking to each other; And as soon as you pass by, the courtiers smile and laugh. These people are not cookie-cutter character models. They are dressed very differently from each other and are so clearly moving that it seems as if the population will carry on their business with or without your presence. The views of the city itself are more impressive when they come in front of you, inviting you to enjoy their splendor. It's an incredibly good looking game: the lighting is great, the raffle is wide, and the texture is crisp. If you don't have a widescreen monitor, however, note that GameLetter is boxed - that is, black stripes will appear at the top and bottom of your display.
However, the sense of place and time of Assassin's Creed II is not just due to his visions. Its high-quality sound design is equally responsive, providing a busy-sounding Florence and yet small thing.
